After I posted yesterday’s review of the Star Wars novelization, I was thinking about Chewbacca since I used a picture of him for that post’s featured image. And it reminded me of a quick anecdote.
Now, I’m not the type to go all, “Oh, kids say just the darnedest things, don’t they?” Especially not on this blog. But a while back, my oldest boy was learning the names of Star Wars characters that continually seemed to show up on his and his my shirts, and or course Chewbacca was one of those characters.
The weird thing was, he kept calling him “Chew Cow.” At first, I thought he just might have been having trouble pronouncing it, and it took me a while to realize he thought he was translating “Chu Vaca,” which he apparently thought was Chewie’s name in Spanish!
I guess he was also confused about Chewie’s roar. When we went to Disney World earlier this year, he was roaring at every character he met because Mickey and Minnie had acted scared when he did it with them, and he loved that. But not Chewbacca. When he saw Chewie, right away he let loose a loud, “Moooooo!”
Oh, kids say just the darnedest things, don’t they?
