Past, Present, and Future Projects

I just wanted to write a short post to update my various ongoing projects. Let’s start with last year’s ones.

Projects for 2013:

Reading: Last year I did my Sitzbook “book a week” project, and I completed it for the third year in a row. I’m pretty proud of that, since it was a busy year with a lot of extra traveling, planning, and other work. I read 16,422 pages, for an average of 316 pages per book. That’s a lot. I’m a bit disappointed that I didn’t get a review written for each book that I read, which was my original intent, but oh well. It’s my blog, so I guess I don’t have to do that anyhow. I will be getting some of the quotes that I marked on my Kindle and putting them in a quote file, so I may share some of them with the blog sometime.

Photograhy: Also for the third year in a row, I managed to complete my “Picture of the Day” project (Click here for a set with all the Pictures of the Day from 2013). After so many days I have to admit that I’m rapidly running out of tchotchkes around my house to photograph, and I’m sure that this will be the year of Angela getting annoyed at me for using her as the subject of Picture of the Day every other day or so, but the main thing it to keep on keeping on, and I’ve definitely done that.

Music: I also decided to listen to all my songs on iTunes from A-Z. It’s been a great but long experience so far. Right now I have over 22,200 songs on there, and it’s not like I’m constantly working at my computer. It’s been interesting, though. For example, I have 228 songs that start with the word “Love” and 580 that start with the word (not the letter) “I.” That’s pretty nuts. Anyhow, I started in mid-April and am still only on the letter M (about halfway), so I’ll keep on rocking this year.

Visited countries

Travel: A while ago I made it a goal to have visited one country for each year I’m alive. I’m actually a little ahead on this goal, especially since this past year I made it to Colombia (two nights there before and after our trip to Germany–check #5 on this list) and Cuba. According to my count, I’ve now been to 37 countries, so I can sit back for three or four years until I have to keep moving again (although I hope I won’t have to wait that long–I love to travel!)

Projects For 2014:

Reading: After a few years of focusing on shorter books in order to meet the book a week goal, I decided that this year I’ll read one book per month, but that it’ll have to be longer than 500 pages (I have a few that are over 450, and may end up choosing one or two of them, as well). That’ll give me a bit more time to absorb and hopefully enjoy the books. Also, once I finish every month, I’ll play video games while exercising (I usually read while on my exercise bike), so that’ll also give me a chance to concentrate on numbing my brain a bit, after having sharpened it for three consecutive years.

Photography: I’m still going to continue with the Picture of the Day this year. I’m still a bit amazed that I’ve not forgotten it yet. Anyhow, it’s a good way to keep my photography skills and interest up.

Music: Same old, same old.

Angela in Havana. Will 2014 be the year I convince her to go back? Let’s just say this: probably not.

Travel: With the baby on the way, this is perhaps the first year since I was in high school that I don’t have any real plans or ambitions for traveling. We’ll likely visit Colorado at some point so my family can see this baby but other than that, we’ll probably just stay in Costa Rica, unless I can convince Angela that babies love to fly, and that a trip to Taiwan and Japan is just what we need.

Writing: Notice that I didn’t include this in 2013. That’s because I was totally lame when it came to writing in 2013. The main reason/excuse, besides being busy and not having much to say, was that I moved all the sites from Blogger to my own hosting plan using WordPress. That was a huge change, and I probably shouldn’t have worked on moving and setting up 5 sites at once. Now most of them are about ready to go, so I’m going to try to post more frequently to them all. I’m considering having a weekly plan, for example, to post on Sitzblog on Monday, Sitzman ABC on Tuesday, etc. I’ll try to get that going by the end of February, once I get RyanSitzman.com decrappified and up and running again.

How about the rest of you? Any projects or plans for this year?
